Cutting Corners

It’s most likely my age, but cutting corners just never seems to enter my mind. I had a contractor ask me a couple of years ago why our pool beams were so thick. He said most pool builders were forming the top of the beam to look like 12”, then dropping back to 6” as the true beam thickness. I said why? He said to save money. You just can’t put a price on quality. These days our closing rate is down to less than 50%. Mostly because of price. Our basic pool comes with 2” Travertine and Marble coping, huge tile selection and the highest quality of pool equipment. I just don’t believe in quantity over quantity. I a time of new pool company start ups greater than 10 a year in our area and Facebook and instagram adds advertising I ground Gunite and Shotcrete pools for $60k, it’s no wonder. We have a number of pool owners calling needing remodeling 2 years after the pool completion by these new fly by nights. The horrible display of tile work and overall design makes me cringe. No one cares anymore about experience, awards and hours spent in apprenticeships. Price and turnaround is key. Great builders aren’t cheap and cheap builders aren’t great.”
